Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I am a man in my 60s and was circumcised as a child. I am having an occasional situation where I suffer a very sharp stabbing pain in the helmet of my penis. The pain comes without warning and is so sudden as to have me call out and grab at my penis. It doesn`t seem to be encouraged by anything as every time I have suffered this I have not been at rest and not involved in sex or urinating. It feels like a hot needle being thrust into the helmet. I have not injured myself by catching it in the zip and there are no visible signs or marks. I have no discharge.
The helmet of your penis which you are referring is known as glans penis.
Pain in glans penis can be benign or it could be due to some underlying causes. Its not necessarily a STD it can be due to various other causes as well.
Is there any change in color or quantity of your urine output? Is the pain totally localized or radiating?
Pain in the glans penis can also be due to some rare causes such as sickle cell anemia, Peyronie's disease (due to development of scar tissue) and very rarely penile cancer. Sometimes pain due to the renal stones can be radiated to shaft or glans penis too.
Kindly get it evaluated with an urologist he could be able to diagnose further.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Melita Wesley,
